About Republic of Congo
The Republic of Congo “(RoC)”, also known as Congo-Brazzaville, is unrelated to the similarly named, neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo. The RoC is located in central western sub-saharan Africa. With a population of 3.7 million, its economy has been dominated by oil production but exploration for other natural resources including iron ore, phosphate, lead, zinc and timber is an increasingly significant economic contributor. Major international firms such as ENI, Total and Chevron have operated successfully in Congo Brazzaville for many years. The country is a functioning democracy with rule of law based on the French Civil Code and a Mining Code of World Bank standard.
