Cominco sponsors the 54th Congo Independence Day Celebration in Loubou, 15 August 2014

Cominco team parade

Cominco was proud to be one of the sponsor of the Republic of Congo’s 54th Independence Day in the city of Loubou, District of Loango, 15 August 2014, one of the country’s most important annual cultural events in which we have been participating for several years to date.

Local government officials, traditional leaders, and private sector directors, including the CEO of Cominco S.A., all gathered under the tricolour pavilion set up to host dignitaries during the festive event. Cominco marched in the grand parade before these distinguished guests with nearly 100% of our Congo staff team and managers, flanked by a delegation of 40 community representatives from the Hinda Phosphate Project area.

This summer, Cominco has been working diligently in cooperation with the local project area communities to kick-off our ambitious Community Development programme, which includes health and safety education campaigns, technical trainings, agriculture and livestock programmes, and new public infrastructure initiatives.

The 54th Independence Day Parade was the perfect occasion to bring the community members together with our staff team to celebrate our mutual success and move forward as a team to herald sustainable development in the Republic of Congo.
