Gallery: Early Field Work

Cominco refurbished a resampled historic adits, shafts and trenches from the 1950s taking over 800 channel samples, from which preliminary grades, lithology and habit was established. For the first time, the ground was explored for Uranium. Bulk samples were also sent for metallurgical test work.

A remote structural survey using Landsat and ETM Data was commissioned, which indicated the existence of a number of fault structures. A radiometric survey of over 3,000 line km using uranium as a path finder highlighted the phosphate mineralisation. The image identified was further tested by radon and alpha-cup and soil gas hydrocarbon surveys. The excellent correlation across all disciplines led management to commission an extensive drilling programme to explore the continuity, grade and depth of mineralisation.
